Summary

From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes a new standalone romance。

Rule number one for dating your best friend’s sister: Don’t。
Just don’t do it。
Especially when your best friend is dead and the last thing he made you promise him was that you’d keep an eye on his little sister, but not too good of an eye。
As a musician whose longest committed relationship was six weeks, I, Holden Catalano, was the last guy on Earth who should’ve been messing around with Laney Ellison。
The super smart girl whom I affectionately dubbed Lala since childhood was always off limits。
Though that didn’t stop me from thinking about her over the years, especially those times when the two of us would sneak out onto the roof and talk for hours after my buddy fell asleep。 It was innocent, but I’d always held a torch for her。
After Ryan passed away, I vowed to always protect Lala。 That included protecting her—from me。
Now all grown up and a scientist, Lala needed a place to stay when she accepted a temporary research position in New York。 I thought I did the right thing by offering her an apartment in the building I co-owned with my three friends。
Except having her close by reignited all of those old feelings。
And things started to get complicated。
Especially since she was engaged。
And especially since, lately, I’d noticed something more in her eyes。 Desire。
Lala didn’t exactly look at me like the platonic brother figure I was trying so desperately to be, even though I wanted her more than I’d ever wanted anything。
Yet, I was being good—on my very best behavior。
But you know what they say…all good things must come to an end, right?

Review by Lisa Kane If you've read the first book in The Law of Opposites Attract series, we witnessed the steamy dance between Lala and Holden at Colby and Billie's wedding。 We know there is something there, but Holden is a musician who enjoys playing on the stage and off and Lala is a scientist engaged to a colleague。 Very different personalities, but united in their shared grief at the death of Lala's brother, Ryan。 Holden has always been attracted to Lala but he was warned years ago by Ryan Review by Lisa Kane If you've read the first book in The Law of Opposites Attract series, we witnessed the steamy dance between Lala and Holden at Colby and Billie's wedding。 We know there is something there, but Holden is a musician who enjoys playing on the stage and off and Lala is a scientist engaged to a colleague。 Very different personalities, but united in their shared grief at the death of Lala's brother, Ryan。 Holden has always been attracted to Lala but he was warned years ago by Ryan that Lala is off limits。 As tempted as he's been, he's never given in to his feelings。 But now Lala needs a place to stay and Holden offers her the empty apartment next to his。 Maybe not the best idea for trying not to give in to his impulses。 Lala isn't immune by any means, but thinks Warren her fiance, is a safe choice。 Lala has her life mapped out in front of her, she's always followed the sensible path and thinks Holden is not the type to settle down。 But when circumstances keep putting these two together, it's awfully difficult to ignore what they both are feeling。 The question is, will those feelings prove to be nothing more than a mistake or is it the real thing? The Rules of Dating My Best Friend's Sister had just the right balance of humor and seriousness。 There are so many poignant memories these characters have shared with Ryan, Lala's brother。 He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten。 There just may be a little divine intervention going on in this story。 A love as strong as these characters shared with Ryan remains long after he is physically no longer with them。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I feel like i read a different book than everyone else whi has given 5*。 The heroine is an awful person who emotionally cheats on her fiance who is such a nice and devoted guy to her。 She eventually breaks off the engagement and he calls her to tell her she can have as much time as she wants, he will be waiting for her and point blank asks her if there is another guy。 SHE LIES。 This is such a deceiving, awful and selfish thing to do! Absolutely horrible personality of the main female character。 I feel like i read a different book than everyone else whi has given 5*。 The heroine is an awful person who emotionally cheats on her fiance who is such a nice and devoted guy to her。 She eventually breaks off the engagement and he calls her to tell her she can have as much time as she wants, he will be waiting for her and point blank asks her if there is another guy。 SHE LIES。 This is such a deceiving, awful and selfish thing to do! Holden is the manwhore of the manwhore in book 1。 But even then I kinda sensed that he’s the softiest of them all。 What with offering to marry Colby’s baby mama in Book 1 just so Colby would not get stressed out。 The biggest cheerleader of Colby-Billie ship。 The one surprisingly able to give apt advises。This book just made me fell in love with him more。 Because I love me a manwhore who can cry and change like REALLY change。 I really thought and expected that Holden would be the one who’d pull mo Holden is the manwhore of the manwhore in book 1。 But even then I kinda sensed that he’s the softiest of them all。 What with offering to marry Colby’s baby mama in Book 1 just so Colby would not get stressed out。 The biggest cheerleader of Colby-Billie ship。 The one surprisingly able to give apt advises。This book just made me fell in love with him more。 Because I love me a manwhore who can cry and change like REALLY change。 I really thought and expected that Holden would be the one who’d pull more but instead it’s the opposite! And oh how I love LOVE to be proven wrong。I can’t help but laughed when Billie and Holden were in the kitchen and then Colby entered followed by Brayden and Owen and then they were giving Holden a hard time about Lala and Holden scrambling for explanation lol。This book also made me curious about Owen though because of what he said below:“I would love to feel something for someone…to not feel so damn dead inside。 Sometimes, I doubt whether I’m capable of it。 It just hasn’t happened for me。”Made me curious who’s the person who could bring Owen to his knees and I know I’ve got a glimpse of it on those last few pages *giggles* 🤭 。。。more

Lala and HoldenGreat book。 When you are still holding on to the promises you made years ago and you are scared to go for what you really want。

WowLoved this story, the anguish of not breaking the bro code。 It was an amazing story of fate and signs。 What started as young love grew。 Until it was their time。 Great read。 Narration was awesome。

Melissa

It was…。fine。 The pairing seemed a bit forced。 Opposites attract but these two come from completely different worlds。 Add in the constant angst over his man-whore past and it became too repetitive。 I guess just not enough of an ooomphff factor for it to be a hit for me。 2。5*ho hum*stars!!!!!

Deborah

DNF。 2nd book in this series that I couldn't get through。 Only made it 15% this time before I gave up。 Clearly I'm in the minority but I was reading through my last review and it's the same thing I'm going to say here。 Very juvenile writing, characters, storyline, etc。 I don't care about either person。 DNF。 2nd book in this series that I couldn't get through。 Only made it 15% this time before I gave up。 Clearly I'm in the minority but I was reading through my last review and it's the same thing I'm going to say here。 Very juvenile writing, characters, storyline, etc。 I don't care about either person。 。。。more

Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward bring the heat with The Rules of Dating My Best Friend’s Sister。 The physical chemistry between Lala and Hudson fired up almost immediately, and simmered between them throughout their angsty, emotional, friends-to-lovers story。There were a couple of tough sells for me in this book:Lala was engaged and remained engaged for a large portion of the story。 This…didn’t sit right for me。 It was a black cloud over the push/pull between Hudson and Lala and kept me on the outs Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward bring the heat with The Rules of Dating My Best Friend’s Sister。 The physical chemistry between Lala and Hudson fired up almost immediately, and simmered between them throughout their angsty, emotional, friends-to-lovers story。There were a couple of tough sells for me in this book:Lala was engaged and remained engaged for a large portion of the story。 This…didn’t sit right for me。 It was a black cloud over the push/pull between Hudson and Lala and kept me on the outside of any feelings they may have had for each other。 The cheating is shades of gray here, and that’s one of my very few triggers。Additionally, Hudson was a manwhore extraordinaire。 I felt like that fact was driven into me like an anvil。 His reformation began when Lala stepped back into his life, but I didn’t love how he used women to act out when he became frustrated with his feelings and his attraction toward Lala。 The whole setup between them (including how hard all his friends were on him) felt problematic to me and really kept me from going all-in on the love story。That said, their ending was very rewarding and sweet。 There truly was a love connection between them, it’s just that the road they took to get there didn’t sweep me off my feet the way I wanted it to。 I did love Colby and Billie times (Billie, especially, was a bright light for me in this story!)。 I also loved the dynamic between Hudson and Saylor。 And, when Hudson and Lala sorted out their baggage and finally got out of their own way, it was truly a lovely thing。 All in all, this one was a bit uneven for me, but still well worth the read。 ~ Shelly, 3 Stars 。。。more

I hate it when any one of the MCs is in a relationship with another person, when s/he starts lusting after, or doing seemingly innocent everyday stuff with the other MC, that s/he feels guilty about (aptly so)。 Absolutely hate it。 If the current partner (i。e。, Lala's fiancé) is a douchebag, then cut loose。 Fast。 Before starting something or gatekeeping the object of your desires, who just so happens to NOT be your fiancé。 It's so crass。This story ends in a not-so-romantic-at-all way for me。 (vie I hate it when any one of the MCs is in a relationship with another person, when s/he starts lusting after, or doing seemingly innocent everyday stuff with the other MC, that s/he feels guilty about (aptly so)。 Absolutely hate it。 If the current partner (i。e。, Lala's fiancé) is a douchebag, then cut loose。 Fast。 Before starting something or gatekeeping the object of your desires, who just so happens to NOT be your fiancé。 It's so crass。This story ends in a not-so-romantic-at-all way for me。 (view spoiler)[Heroine gets knocked up by the former manwhore of a hero; the hero, who's the drummer for a small-time band, decides to quit his musical semi-career, and focus on what? great read I loved this book and this series so much! Holden is just an incredible person! He is so in love with lala and he can’t help his ways! I love how hard he changed for her and tried to be that guy for her! He was always willing to be her hero and do right by her! The boys friendship was just amazing!

I absolutely loved this book and devoured it as fast as a mom of two littles allowed。 Holden & Laney have incredible chemistry that is written so well you swear you're in the room feeling it roll off of them。 It's a slow burn, forbidden romance that just has the best build up。 It's a roller coaster of emotions I did not want to get off of but when they finally get their HEA it was worth it and then some。 Such a great and memorable ending。 When these two talented authors come together I know I'm I absolutely loved this book and devoured it as fast as a mom of two littles allowed。 Holden & Laney have incredible chemistry that is written so well you swear you're in the room feeling it roll off of them。 It's a slow burn, forbidden romance that just has the best build up。 It's a roller coaster of emotions I did not want to get off of but when they finally get their HEA it was worth it and then some。 Such a great and memorable ending。 When these two talented authors come together I know I'm in for the best time。 。。。more

I want to give this book all the stars! Two of my favorite authors have made my day with their surprise at the end of the book。 After reading the synopsis for this book I was so excited to read it。 I fell hard for Holden。 He knows he isn’t supposed to be attracted to Layla。 She is off limits to him or she’s supposed to be。 These two have the best chemistry and were just meant for each other。 I loved everything about this story and seeing characters from the previous book in this series。 I can’t I want to give this book all the stars!
